What to expect from your first shiatsu session

First sessions at Pure Cloud Valley tend to follow a similar shape. There is a short conversation at the start, the session itself, and a few minutes at the end to sit up slowly and ask questions. This article describes what that looks like in practice, so you can arrive without having to guess.

01 Before you arrive

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Shiatsu is done through clothing on a floor futon, so you do not undress. Loose trousers and a long-sleeved top are ideal. Avoid stiff denim or anything with a thick waistband. If you will be coming straight from work and need to change, mention it when you book.

Eat lightly beforehand. A full meal an hour before a session can make lying on your front uncomfortable, while a light snack is fine. Avoid alcohol on the day of the session.

02 The session itself

The session starts with a short conversation, usually five to ten minutes. We ask what you have noticed in your body and what brought you in. This is not a medical intake. It is a way of orienting the session, and you do not need to have a clear answer.

You will lie on a floor futon, first on your back and then on your front. We work along the back, shoulders, legs and sometimes the arms. The pressure is sustained and slow. If anything is too strong or uncomfortable, say so, because the pressure can be adjusted at any point.

03 After the session

People describe different things afterwards. Some feel looser and quieter, some feel a mild tiredness, and some notice nothing in particular. We usually suggest drinking water and keeping the rest of the day gentle. None of this is a promise of any effect, and shiatsu here is relaxation bodywork rather than medical care.

If you have questions after the session, you can write to the studio at hello@purecloudvalley.com or call +81 6-4519-6461. The common questions before booking page covers payment, cancellation and how to arrange a visit.
