Rest is more than sleep

Sleep is the most obvious form of rest, and it matters. Still, plenty of people sleep seven or eight hours and wake up tired. Sleep and rest are not always the same thing, and this note looks at the difference in everyday terms.

01 Two modes, in plain words

In simple terms, the body has an alert mode and a settling mode, and a busy life tends to favour the first. This is a rough, popular picture rather than a clinical one, and we are not clinicians.

People describe the same familiar things: trouble winding down in the evening, a busy mind in the small hours, a tight jaw or tight shoulders. These can have many causes. If they persist or worry you, a doctor is the right person to ask.

02 What a slow, quiet session is for

At Pure Cloud Valley, shiatsu is deliberately slow. The pressure is held, the room is quiet, and after the first few minutes we talk very little. These are choices meant to give you room to settle, not a method with a guaranteed effect. How a session feels differs from visit to visit, and some people simply find it a pleasant, unhurried hour.

03 Where breathwork fits

Breathwork sessions concentrate on a long, slow exhale, because that is what many people find easiest to do on purpose. The inhale tends to take care of itself once the exhale is unhurried. It is a practice, not a treatment, and we do not claim that it changes how you sleep.

You do not have to choose in advance. The 30-minute stillness session is a gentle first visit if you are unsure, and the services page describes each format.
